Hey guys,

I'm new to this site, and only know a limited amount about the 4spds and the ZF.

I recently got myself a BF XR6 (not turbo'd unfortunately, yet anyways!), with the 4spd in it. I knew it was a little clunky on purchase, but it has low kms, and I was swapping for a busted up old HZ Ute!

A few nights ago I had an idiot cut me off, so went around him, but as soon as I hit 4K and tried to change it wouldn't, I continually tried to change till hitting around 6K and instantly just took my foot off the accelerator. Soon after it changed, after flaring down to about 4K before doing so. Next morning wanted to see how it was, as soon as I took off, got stuck in neutral, and took a few seconds before it would get into first. I turned around straight away.

Anyways, what I was wanting help with is advice, should I rebuild the 4spd really strong (depending how wrecked it is), or should I install a ZF? Because I made almost $10,000 im happy to spend some money on things here and there. I've heard the 4spds are a good box, they just aren't made strong enough. I know ZF's are fantastic, but have heard they are a pain to put into anything else and are quite expensive. Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

Down the track I wouldn't mind installing a turbo kit etc, so I definitely want something that can handle that. I've been told ZF's can handle around 400rwkw. What would be the cheaper option keeping in mind that I wouldn't mind producing a heap of power down the track?

Thanks guys!

I would honestly just stick with the 4spd - if you run big power once you finally do the turbo conversion then yes you may have some problems however they can be built quite well and made to last with good tuning

So if I have my 4spd rebuilt and strengthed it will be a lot cheaper too wont it? I've just been reading the mods section, and see a lot of guys with BA's hitting well over 300 at the rears with the 4spd. Was only sceptical about this as my 4spd is stuffed (don't know how the car was treated), and my brothers BA Turbo has nothing but a tune and the gearbox has been stuffed for the past 40,000kms (He wanted a pretty stock one, bought that as it only had a tune, and soon after the gear box had problems). Thanks for the help mate

that's probably the easiest way to do things /\/\/\/\/\/\

Re-building the box with some power in mind would be a good idea if you are dead set on converting to turbo. I wouldn't bother stuffing around with a ZF conversion though.

NB - just so you know too, don't quote the message above, use the add reply box at the bottom of the page - keeps things a bit neater in the threads! :spoton:

Yeah Paulie2256 - I keep thinking I should probably just rebuild the gearbox to standard and sell it and get myself a BFII Turbo. I think I'm a little too in love with the colour, Don't see too many around in Deja Vu (not in WA anyway)

Ok, can do :)
