Just To Clarify

I've searched through these forums for a while now and I think I have the right idea here, but I would like to just make sure I'm on the right track before I spend $$$

atm I have a bf2 turbo with

60 pound injectors

hiflow cat

Monza cooler

285rwkw 13 psi

My understanding is that if I were to buy the rapid v2 kit, and get a retune I in theory should be able to run lower amount of boost (10 psi example) and get the same power, as there was less boost lost in my better cooler/piping? Or run 13psi still and get more power.

here's where I go slightly off topic:

Does this mean that if I were to sort out my next restriction and go a larger dump pipe BUT keep boost levels below 13pound I should be okay? or am I completely missing something? based on reading that 13 pound is about all you want to be running without turbo actuator/wastegate mods

(the whole reason to wanting to lower my boost to about 10 pound but still gaining power from 285, by doing these new mods)

Im lost, please halp

Piping and cooler kit makes a huge difference. 13 psi is fine... If you ran a dump and cat... And decent cooler, you should see low 300's at 13psi...

I'm not sure I completly understand what your trying to acheive. Or why you want to lower your boost to 10psi.??

this is the easiest way to understand it I guess..

This is all just an example ok..

Imagine that at your 13psi your turbo is pumping (keeping it simple and not accurate) 1300cfm of air..

But their are lots of things stopping that 1300cfm of air getting into, and out of your engine.

So currently with a small exhaust and low flowing intercooler only 1000cfm of air is actually flowing through the engine. And making XXX power.

No everything you do to reduce the restriction, and allow more of that 1300cfm to actually get through the engine will result in more power for the same boost..

If you can do this well enough then you can in theory make more power with less boost..

But why would you.??

Also you will require a tune to make sure every thing is still safe with the higher flow..

not quite correct, get rid of the pressure drop and the boost in the manifold will go up with the higher flow of air, but the job of the intercooler is to cool the intake air charge, the cooler it is, the more spark the motor will tolerate so power will go up for the same boost level.

Also reducing the pressure drop has the affect of the turbo not having to work so hard so the intial intake charge is cooler to start with.

if you want the same power on less boost, you need to get a good exhaust system

I know.. And I was half way though adding the boost vs air flow thing, but just thought I'd leave it simpleand easy to understand.

Adding a 3rd and 4th (heated air control) dimention to it would have made it too complicated..

It still all boils done to, If you can make the system more effecient it will be possable to make more power on the same or less boost..

Which also again raises the question WHY LESS BOOST.??

Would I be right in saying that cooler air with the same boost would run a leaner AFR? Of course that would be adjusted in the re-tune buy managing fuel supply.. But not everyone is chasing huge power mate. The OP might not wanna risk more boost and more strain on the engine..

The less boost idea was if 13 psi was too much for standard wastegate/actuator.

You've answered what I needed. Thanks heaps!

Get an actuator, better for the tuner and will hold boost top end
