Even though it sounds like RHF, might be hand brake shoe clip thing. Had it in mine, if you find a spot where you can hear it every single time, go over that spot a few times and lift the handbrake up a click or so. See if you still hear it.

No, the rack would be easy to isolate....

In some cases it can be the shocks, the piston can come loose from the shock rod - are they still original or have they been changed?

I thought it was shock. But when stationary and rocking the car it sorta sounds like it comes from steering rack area. The shocks are lovells eliminator and are about 25000kms old. My initial thoughts where either strut top mount or shock but after removing and disassembling RHF strut and found nothing sorta moved my focus elsewhere. How can I diagnose a lose shock piston? When they where apart I couldn't get any noise from it.

Are bilsteins much better than lovells for ride comfort?

Who's a good suspension mob in Perth? Wa suspensions?

Lovells shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Bilsteins...different ball game!

Its hard to test for a piston knock without a shock dyno - you will usually only hear it at high speed movements (faster than what you can move the shocks by hand)

Sounds like bilsteins it is then!!!

Have you seen the steel bush part of the top strut mount wear out and cause knocking noises?

Its very rare and generally only happens when the top mount isn't assembled or done up correctly

My cousin had the same knock on his bf,, ended up being a loose subframe bolt eating into the alloy and making a deeper gap

Ended up being the strut. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy with the bilstein's over the lovells. Those two really are chalk and cheese.
