don't stand around texting or checking facebook.

^ This times 11ty billion. Leave your phone off or in your car. Give the shops number to anybody that may need to contact you in an emergency (ie your missus/parents etc) and focus on the business of learning the craft. Also don't ever forget or become complacent in regards to customers cars, treat them with the upmost respect.

when you have left over nuts and bolts from doing something just quietly sweep them under the bench

if you break something or scratch a customers car tell no one

alway blame someone else, its usually best to blame the other apprentice if there is one

dont read instructions. If something comes with instructions it goes in the bin first. Your first guess is usually the best one

+1 on the cleaning. I've come in when Simon was mopping the floors and he said to me "how bad's the situation when the boss has to clean up!" hahaha. He wasn't joking though.

If you see a Lightning Strike BF2 turbo come in with no tint and a "I climbed the fence at the Bass Hill drive in" bumper sticker make sure you give it a good clean by hand and fill up the petrol tank with BP98 from down the road. Feel free to also fit any nice shocks and springs that are laying around the workshop too.

I manage quite a few apprentices and have seen many come and go. All the dud kids have one thing in common... Their attitude. Some of them think they know everything. Some of them think they don't have to do much and some of them don't take having a job seriously.

Don't get caught up with all the other no hoper trouble makers and do fark all at trade school. Don't try and race through all the work either. Answer the questions and really understand the modules before finishing them. I can't stress how important this is! Any idiot can change oil in an engine and rotate a set of tyres, but diagnosing and repairing faults is what sorts the men out from the boys.
