Hey guys,

I got the official word from Ford today... I can't drive the XR6T on my P's... legally. I've had too many worries with cops so I'm not going to risk it. Give me 12 months and I'll be cruisin round with you guys!

Good Luck daninme! Just take it easy on the roads. I'm still going to remain a member of this forum so that I can be fully up to date when I buy my XR6T.

Thanks for the help.

Kirk

Vic law's:

1. 125KW per ton.

2. 3.5ltr's per ton.

Failed math's at school so dont ask me. :P

That must suck in Vic being on P's then.

I'm 99% sure that here in SA there are no restrictions on what cars P platers can drive. Also, I noticed Kirk that you say you're 20 and on your P's. How long do you have to have your P's for? Here in SA you have them until you turn 19, or if you get your license after your 18th bday, you have them for 12 months.

Kirk:

I reckon it would be a very good idea to talk with a Ford dealer and find out how far in advance you would have to order to get an XR6T just after your birthday. Would be a real bummer to turn 21, go in to order one, only to find out you wouldn't get it for another 6 months or so!

Just to let you know, I have never heard of a P plater being done for in VIC for being over the power to wieght. Stress less! My mate is 18 and has a VU SS ute. He has taken all the badges off it and never been done. I got other mates with done up VL turbo's and done up VR 5 liter Holdens, and never been done. I say, get the car, and take off the turbo badge (wolf in sheeps clothing). Even if you did get pulled over, no cop will ever check under the hood unless he/she is a real such and such...

Same in ACT. No restrictions on what cars someone can drive. Also was the only place in Australia until a couple of years back where there were no capacity restrictions on what L/P-plate motorcyclists could ride...imagine an R1 with P-plates on the back...would be what's known as a Temporary Territorian. Now have 150kW/tonne restrictions on bikes.

Wouldn't doing this cause a problem with insurance though?

Nope, Just costs a fortune to insure! but no problems from their point of view.

Do you mean to tell me that an insurance company would insure someone to drive a vehicle that they can't legally drive?!?! I find this hard to believe.

And even if they did, I wouldn't be surprised if they used it as an excuse not to honour a claim in the event of an accident.

Agree with you there bluexr6turbo.

Insurance companies will use anything to worm out of a claim and l would think it being illegal for the owner to drive the car would be the perfect excuse.
