Hi guys,

Im new to the forum. I found out not long ago that there may be a chance for me to be able to drive the XR6T even on my P's. I've been calling around everywhere and no one can give me an exact answer. Just wanted to know if any of you knew whether it does fall under the restrictions.

Thanks for your help.

IMO I'd say the restriction has a lot to do with insurance, and the dealers would just not be insured to allow a test drive. The other reason is they would be skeptical whether you'd buy the car being on your P's (I assume you are quite young to?) Maybe you'd have to prove you are serious about buying one?? I don't know how??

Welcome to the Forum.

I guess it will depend on 2 things..

The biggest issue you will have is insurance... Big bucks...

The second one is Power to weight ratio. If you are in Vic call Vic Roads or check there web site. I am sure that this will not be a issue with the XR6T as it is 1750kg. But check anyway..

For example.. A P plater in Vic can not drive a XW - XB GT as they are a 351 - 5.8L but can drive a 302 - 4.9L

Although thinking about this the XB's were rated at 300bhp. - 222kw approx (I think) so you may be stuffed.. Anyway, check out Vic roads and see what they have to say..

I actually got a quote through Ford Insure for $3000. Being 20 I can deal with that for a great car. I just don't want to buy the car and then get pulled up for not being able to drive it.

Ive been on the phone with VicRoads all morning and no one can answer it. Now I have Ford working it out and calling me back. To think that no P Plater has enquired about this before!!

Worst comes to worse I may have to pull the old parents name for insurance but my main concern is whether or not its legal.

Vic law's:

1. 125KW per ton.

2. 3.5ltr's per ton.

Failed math's at school so dont ask me. :P

You'll lose out on the power side of things if that's the case - 1.7*125=212.5KW

Pretty silly rule though - it means you can still buy a MY02 WRX which has faster posted times than an XR6T but less crash protection.

Mate, when I was 20, I couldn't afford all my text books for uni let alone an XR6T.

I'm sure many P platers have enquired about them but you may be the first serious buyer.

Just for your info, I'm 28 and rating 1 and still had insurance knocked back from a few companies.
