Not sure if it needs to be locked Jules, if anything someone with no understanding may start a conversation so that others can learn.

I'll leave it up to you as far as lock vs unlocks goes...

SDP, I aprecicate, I think I where you meant for this to travel.

I will discuss issues of the day, no Panda , nor kiddie talk.

Take it to the right forum. Plenty of places for general sh*t

This subject is dear to me as a sufferer and not a place for sh*t talk

Thread re -opened for now. Issues of the day, boats , mining boooooooms

budgets, deficits and lagging of promises which are unfunded by a Govt that will not be in power in

3 years despite the deferred spending of. billions, with no tax increases ( how )

For examples only.

Welcome to Master Stooge , lets fark'em

Open for debate

sh*t will be deleted ie. irrelevance. Any sh*tter type sledging will result in a holiday

Health risk for women SHP?

Mining Booms? No offence to any miners on here... But I just got off the phone organising a Boys weekend for me and a few mates that managed to ship our wives off on the same weekend. In the discussion of where we'll stay and what we'll be doing one of the guys throws in 'You get paid a ridiculous amount of money for what you actually do. Geez I wish I could get that for predominantly using a computer all day'

Excuse me wanker? You drive a forklift.. Your base salary is higher then mine. I have numerous uni quals and ridiculous amounts of memberships/insurances I have to maintain to keep my job.. YOU DRIVE A FORKLIFT!!! I may get more money because of travel/overtime and I may get company cars.. He's got a house on the beach, 2 jetskis, brand new land cruiser and a GTS for the wife. Yet not enough cash in the bank to chip in for a $300 a night apartment at surfers (2 nights between 3 blokes yeah we're huge spenders). The wife and I treat my base salary as granted and the rest as a bonus. We try not to over extend and even to the point of deciding that my FG wasn't really needed as I have a work car 98% of the time.

When the boom crashes I'm not going to feel too sorry for all the plebs out of work because some of us work to stay re-employable.. Same with the current government sackings. I spent my years in government keeping myself re-employable.. Worked my arse off.. Most of those farkers have fallen into such specific job descriptions they will be useless in private industry.. Nowhere in an employment contract does it say that you have to be employed for the rest of your natural life!!!

Picking up what you're putting down there Panda. It's definitely giving allot of the intellectually deficient a free ride on the gravy train.

Upset a mate not long ago when I rejected his request to pay for a weekend away with his mrs, if you don't have the spare cash (or available credit) then how about skipping the non essentials until your next pay packet arrives. And the bloke pays more tax than I earn gross.

As for the black dog it's most definitely a fcked up insidious thing. And as eloquently explained by Patrice it's not helped by a male's incessant need to be seen as macho. Good onya Jules for putting forward your $202.02 worth.

...imagine what he could come up with after a bottle of the good stuff and a bit more planning!

Great topic.

I will keep a watchful eye on this one. Depression and anxiety is hereditary in my family and I suffered big time from it and still do.

Magority of it income related. People don't understand how painful it is to properly suffer from it.

Huge snowball effects takes place.

Running out of money> stress

Stress> anxiety and worrying

Anxiety> depression

Depression> no motivation

No motivation> hating work

Hating work> hating people and loosing friends

Loosing friends> severe depression

Severe depression> suicidal thoughts

Then before you know it your spending time in hospital talking to multiple psychs and councelers.

It's really not pleasent at all. Wouldn't wish it on anyone no matter what the cause.

I have an open ear to anyone who wants to talk about it as I managed to get through it. Maybe Sharing experiences can help to overcome!

As far as the Black Dog goes.

For years I had Snots outlook on it.. This was a view largely fed by spending 6 and a bit years working night shift with my old man. Both of us thought depression was for sissies and butchers were pansies and miners were overpaid carnts.

This train of thinking up till about 12 months ago caused massive arguments between my wife and me because 3 people on her side of the family suffer from depression.

Recently my view has changed.. not gonna go into it here.. Maybe another day it's still a pretty soft spot..

If ya got a mate ya think has a problem.. I'd definitely be asking him about it.. R U OK is a brilliant idea.

Did anyone get the SMS that was going around yesterday?

"R U OK?
I
was too depressed yesterday to ask"

I lolled a little.

But yeah Panda I was the same, and the old man still is to a certain extent. Brought up on the land where if something went wrong then you just suck it up and move on. No decent red blooded male would ever talk about feelings to a mate let alone a doctor, and the doctor was only reserved for special occasions such as half a leg missing or complete inability to move. Ironically though it's really hitting those communities the most at the moment, especially pre 2011 with the lack of rainfall etc.

Depression (along with other mental illnesses) can actually be due to chemical imbalances in the brain. It has nothing to do with how "tough" someone is. They have no control over that without the help of medical drugs.

It's easy to be ignorant...

The boats in a very interesting topic. SO many people I work with think all these boats should be blown out of the water because they're entering the country illegally. They have no idea about the UNHCR and the rights of asylum seekers. They only know what the mainstream media tells them.
