Just picked the turbs up from its 15K service today. When I booked it, I was asked whether I wanted to take advantage of Fords Capped Price Service, keeping the cost to $360. Naturally I said yes.

Time comes to pay, bloke asks for $450!!! So I explain to him it should have been the $360 Capped Price Service, to which he replied "oh...we werent made aware of that and we've gone and put a fully synthetic oil in, which is more expensive". He was really good about it and just put it through at the agreed amount, but it got me wondering why Ford would even bother using a cheaper (normal) oil for the XR6T at all? I would have thought the Turbo would warrant synthetic oil as standard fare?

Was also suprised to learn it was a Valvoline oil being used. Is this factory specified?

Typical... that's why I never take my car to Fraud for anything except warrenty claims.

I was under the impression that they use Castrol oil?? And $90 extra for synthetic? WTF

Factory spec oil is mineral 15w40. This is the correct oil for this engine as specified by ford engineers. It is not sh*t because its cheaper, ford warrant these engines for 3-5 years 100000+ ks so there is nothing wrong with using mineral oil. I use it in my 400rwkw bf no dramas at all. Why any service dept would just go chuck a full synthetic oil in without asking first is beyond me.

Also ford service centres can use whatever brand they wish (unless its a gt which requires castrol edge) as long as it conforms to their oil specification
