BJC, get yourself some Tar remover solvent and go around and quickly remove the black stuff before claying. You will get less marring from the clay and your clay will last longer. Carpro Tar X is good, or you could get some Trix which will remove iron contamination at the same time.

I have a BA in Blue Pearl and its a really bad Factory Job.

I use:

Mothers Clay Bars/Meguiars FI I had lying 'round

1/2 Meguiars Final Inspection,1/2 Septone Heavy Cut

Re do in Clay and Meguiars FI

Meguiars Swirl Remover

Meguiars Ultimate

Meguiars Final Inspection

I have found changing your Washing Sponges and Chamois helps HEAPS

But the Swirls come back within a month...

Was going to Wet And Dry with 2000,3000,4000 and repeat the above process.

Let you know how I go.

swirls come back within the month due to incorrect washing technique

but they will return over some time even with perfect washing

Lol, yeah yeah - they've been there since I was younger....I keep an eye out for BF taillights when I remember, but since its a black car with black housings they don't stand out as bad as some

Mmm black. Yep, our cars look the best... for the 5 minutes they're clean...!

Here's mine after my last detail (approx. total 16 hours) around 2 years ago. I'm about to do it again in a few months so I'll post up my process, etc.

The guys over at Detail Paradise know their sh*t, and just a word of warning a lot of people don't.

Found the Meguires deep crystal I had lying around so thought I would give it a try on a few areas (couldn't be bothered to wash the whole car because predicting rain all week and I have to go down a dirt road 2moro).

Just cleaned the surfaces, polished with the meguires and wiped off. I did the top of the doors on one side, above the fuel cap and a section of the bonnet (the bonnet is pretty bad). The bonnet had the least success with only about 20% of swirls being removed but the other areas got rid of about 50-60% of the swirls which is pretty good for a $30 bottle of polish.

My car has about the same amount of swirl as senna posted up above to give some perspective.

If your car is in fairly good nick I would definitely give this a try before going to extremes. I will need a proper cut and polish from a detailer but until funds permit I'll just give this a go myself. Once its cut and polished, if you apply this stuff and a good wax every 6-12months I'd say that's a good way to keep a black car looking good!

Just to clarify the swirls have not been removed but rather hidden under the product. Unfortunately they will be waiting to greet you again in a week or 2 once the polish wears off.

Once your car is detailed by a pro you wont need this type of product either. As its a glaze type polish its supposed to make the surface glossy artificially as aposed to a genuine gloss on naked paint. The problem with glazes is that they are oily and your waxes wont adher to the surface as well as they would if applied straight to paint. If your happy to rewax a lot that's not a problem but if you want some durability from your applications you will be out of luck. Im also talking about genuine paste type waxes (solid wax in a tub), liquid bottle "Wax" (although you will find next to no wax content in the bottle) will bearly adher at all. Once detailed just get a high quality paste wax and apply it once every 2-3 months or a sealant and apply it every 5-6months.

I made a reply in a thread a while ago that explains some products and their differences as well as alternatives to the off the shelf Megs and Mothers stuff. Same price but far better quality in terms of protection and durability. http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/80346-best-polish-or-wax-for-vixen-red/ Feel free to ask any questions about car care as its what I do.

What are the best products on a budget to

A : remove contaminants and Swirls

B: polish

C: wax

Cheers mate

For Contaminates get a tar remover, Iron X for ferrous material and then clay to get rid of everything else.

Abrasive polish is the only way to remove swirls. I use Menzerna and Carpro mostly. Application by machine is the best and fastest solution but unless your confident its best to stick with your hand. Very hard and slow work and the results wont be as good. You can hide swirls with a filler type polish or glaze. Autoglym Super resin polish is a good example, looks ok but wont last long. Once the surface is polished you removed everything that's on the paint so its as clean as possible for your wax application.

As for wax see the link above.
