My swirls are that bad I can't even see the metallic flake!Seeing the job your stuff gets just looks too good Keels, I might have to go for it! Do you reckon it could be done with an electric buff or better by hand?
Guest XR09 Guests Posted 04/09/12 07:35 AM Share Posted 04/09/12 07:35 AM (edited) How good is your right arm ???You could do it yourself, will take two days by hand. Hard bloody work and there is no short cut to a proper job for mine.First off is how big are the swirls ?? and or scratches.I swear by Fareccla products for cutting and the price. Kinda the bottom of the upper shelves but well above anything you will get out of supercheap...You could get some liquid G3 and hand rub it...hope your a fit boy cause it's gunna take some work. That will get the swirls out and any contamination in the paint. Also is a bit of a filler.I buy it in a liter bottle. Think it retails for about $90 upwards. A liter will do the car ten times at least.Use water in an atomizer to keep breaking it down while you rub it in. It's gunna be tough by hand. And then I would hit it with G10. Both Fareccla products. This will make it shine and seal it really well. Then half a dozen thin coats of Glymm waxAnd there's your three hundred dollars spent and you still have to do the hard work cause you ain't got a buff.$300 if the guy is really good is good. It isn't easy and you can cost yourself lots more. The stuff you get in auto shops is ok. But you need to apply it fortnightly at best.Good stuff lasts for months and pays for itself in the long run....if you like your car Edited 04/09/12 07:36 AM by XR09

I'd gladly pay $300 twice a year easy. I only wash it when there's a cruise on, so maybe six washes and two trips to the detailer/panel shop per year - money well spent! The interior I can manage (leather conditioner for the seats, protectant for the dash etc) but exterior I strictly leave to the professionals. Posted 04/09/12 09:24 AM Share Posted 04/09/12 09:24 AM Throw the supercheap polisher up against the door as its more use as a stop than it is on the paint. Naviwax is a fantastic wax and punches well above its weight. I use heaps of the stuff as well as sell the stuff. Poorboys black hole is a filler glaze so will not remove anything just hide the swirls. You need an abrasive polish such as Menzerna or Megs Ulitmate Compound off of the shelf. Polishing by hand is hard work and realistically wont shift much. Think about a machine spinning at 1000rpm on the a section of a panel for 30secs or so, your arm just cant do that much work. The other problem is that polishes require heat to break the abrasive down so that it can do its job. It can be done but its going to take a long time.Pay the man to do the work but make sure you take it into the sun before you hand over the money. Its easy to make a car look good in the garage but the sun is going to show any whether he has got rid or swirls or just moved them.Unfortunately most panel shops cant polish for sh*t. $300 is cheap for a polish but also check things like your trim is not burnt by the machine.Dont worry about the 3 stages. He should not be removing to much paint. I would expect the finish to be around 140 microns thick and I would expect no more than 5-8 microns to be removed to correct the finish. To do the job correctly the paint needs to be polished with something a little more abrasive to begin with to remove the swirling. However the heavier abrasive will leave trace marks of its own (holograms, those whispy white lines on black cars sitting at dealers) so this is why the car needs to be repolished with something softer to remove this traces leaving the paint flawless.Feel free to ask any questions

So by the sounds of it I'm best off getting a panel beater or the like to cut out the swirls and then give it a few coats of wax using the naviwax?I'm a bit short of cash at the moment that's why I was trying other options before paying a panel beater but I guess by time I buy the products and spend a day or 2 I won't have much coin left anyway.Hey Rancid how was that shine achieved in those 3 comparison photos? My swirls are no where near that bad, I just want the metal flake to show back through again
