Wash the car, hit it with claybar and slightly soapy water ( buy the kit from supercheap ) depending on your paints condition I would advise to get it cut and polished professionally then sealed.

Edit: if you were to claybar then re wax the car your just re sealing scratches

Finally got around to clay barring the car and polishing. Wash-clay-wash-polish. About 3.5hrs work

Bought the meguiars clay kit from autobarn. I ordered some snow foam and a.waffle weave microfibre chamois off carcareproducts.com.au a few wks ago. Snow foam out of stock but got the microfibre towel sent out. Does an awesome job imo..

Anyway pics..

Just about to order my naviwax dark from waxit to put on after I get the car cut and polished next weekend. Just wondering if theres any other products I should consider while I'm going? Like any really good bug and tar removers etc that you can't really get in normal stores?

Actually whats a good chamois too because I know that can often be a cause of all the swirls and the one I have is pretty old now

Thought I would go out and confuse myself even more today and after watching a heap of youtube videos I considered the idea of doing a cut and polish myself. So a few questions for the professionals out there

1. Am I stupid to think that I could safely and accurately cut and polish a black car without any experience

2. I can get a cut and polish for $150 from a friend and from what I've looked at you can buy a machine polisher kit anywhere from 150 to $350 (for entry level stuff). The cheaper ones being kits from china and the $350 odd being from wax it. Plus the cheaper kits need polish bought so won't be that much cheaper anyway

3. How much use would I actually get out of a machine polisher? Would it actually be worth it when I could get a cut and polish that cheap every so often?

Also Im going to buy a good wax too apply after the polish so I guess the machine could be used to apply it and make my life easier lol

Thanks

so this is the process...

wash

clay

wash

polish

and then wax?

my paints only 2 years old so im thinking I dont need to bother with a full cut and polish just a good polish then wax?

buy a bonnet from the wreckers and practice cut and polishing that before tackling your own car.

process.

-wash

-clay

-wash

then depending how much cut you need to do. for eg... lets say only swirls. no deep scratches.

-medium cut

wipe down

-fine cut/gloss cut

thorough wipe down

then seal of your choice. wax, spray on whatever. numerous coats depending on product.

I see. just dont wanna risk damage with a cut. that's why I was thinking of just claying then polishing, then waxing.

thanks for the help mate
