I will be purchasing a set of new wheels / tyres in the week to come for the FG & have been brought down to two sets which have really caught my eye. Bare in mind I want to keep it to a $1500 budget.

Here are the details.

* Icon Zest Hyper Silver w/ 245/35/19 & 275/30/19 Achilles ATR Tyres $1560

* FPV Dark Argent (Copies) w/ 245/35/19 Maxxis MA-Z1 Tyres $1500

Ofcourse going for the better tyre package would be the best logical option but I'm contemplating on the other set due to it's 9.5" staggered fitment.

I have had Achilles ATR tyres in the past & they are the best bang for buck tyre I have come across yet. As for the Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres, I have no idea what they are like on the road but the prices for them start from $250 while the Achilles are normally only $120 - $145.

What wheel package do you people suggest I go for & what can you tell me about the Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres? Thanks

Top package!

Achilles have been good for me but only had them on the front. Maxxis on the front were worse than the achilles in 243/35r19. Maxxis are rubbish on the rear, plus you have to keep the psi up or they scrub out on the inside and outsides. Personal opinion though but I have had both

I have taken the time to read some past threads/posts on the Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres & have actualy noticed alot of good & bad feedback from everyone on them dating back to 2006 - 2007. One of the most interesting posts I read was someone pulling close to a 11 flat in a BA on them down the 1/4 mile & then a 10.88 on slicks. Have even read that they have had some good reviews on them in the wheels magazine also. loll this is all too confusing now..

I'm not too concerned about what others have, looks & what not. They are the only two sets that I like which are for sale at the moment. I am more interested in what setup out of the two listed above would be a better one to go for.

You're going to get mixed reviews on every tyre no matter where you look. But like I said mine is just personal experience that I've had with both.

Plus you need to be careful the reviews you read in different sizes. The MA-Z1 in 18's were great but in 19's only okay! There actually is a different how they perform in different sizes. Tyre companies want they're flagship tyre to be for a particular size and do the other sizes aswell. Just something to consider

Plus from what I gathered from your original post, the icon's are staggered but the argents are so the icon's are much better, especially given you have close to 300rwkw according to your sig

Non staggered means you can rotate tyres and get better wear. I've had MA Z1s on two cars and found them pretty good all round, wear well, good grip wet and dry, not too noisy and have a nice rim protector which most of the cheaper tyre don't. But yes keep the pressures up but you should anyway on profiles like this.
