Hey guys,

I tried to do a search but that failed.

My ute has developed a squeak sound when I am driving on really rough roads. General bumps etc in the road I hear nothing, but when I hit very rough road I get a squeaking sound coming from what sounds like the rear right back of my car?

I poked my head under there, started banging on a few things to get it to do it but no avail, noticed my mudflaps were not secured, put them on properly but some form on metal on metal squeak noise is still there.

Anyone heard of this problem? Hopefully its something common/simple.

I did a lot more googling with different wording, apparently it can be leafs, leaf bushs, leaf U bolts and brakes?

I think I might reverse her on the jacks and lube anything that moves.

What is the best stuff to use though? If silicone spray is I will use that, but I really hate silicone. What can I throw in there that wont wash out and wont be a pain to apply?

Also key points to what could make noise as well please!

At first the squeak didn't bother me, but now that it's sorta progressing on smaller bumps its driving me up the tree.

Just be careful where you spray that sh*t. Its very bad for paint and is hard to remove if you put it somewhere that its not wanted.

Alright so I jumped under the car with a can of 3 in 1 spray on lube, sprayed pretty much EVERYTHING that looks like a bracket, leaf's tow bar, brake line brackets etc etc. Bumped into the spare wheel, that made a squeak. Sprayed that and took it for a spin.

Still there, So I did some tests around the streets, drove over some bumps and those reflectors on the road. Right side squeaks when the rear wheel hits a reflector, left side doesn't. Drove over one again on the right side with no brakes, made the squeak then drove over one again on the brakes slightly and no noise.

What in the brake caliper will make a loose metal squeak noise. It almost sounds like the squeak you get when your pads are getting low.

Quick edit: I didn't spray the brake caliper as I am afraid too.. Did it once on my motorbike and wont be doing that one again.

Yeah pretty sure I diagnosed and solved my own problem.

Handbrake shoe? that metal retaining clip behind the brake caliper. Drove around lifting the hand brake over heavy bumps and the noise was gone.. Time to get hands dirty.

I had this exact issue, and that was the cause. The clip had actually snapped and was rubbing making the squeeling noise.
