17 Inch Rim For Mt's-Nt05R

Hi guys I own a FG F6 and Iam currently replacing my BremBos with with standard PBR rotors and callipers as on xr6 's I want to purchase drag rims front runners on the front what size wheels would I need all round and slick size and offset so I can purchase. I hear 17 on front and 15's on the back are a good match ?

Was thinking the same, I am looking for a pair aswell, just need to find a set that clear the BF/Territory brakes

Mate did u have any love on finding a set of these rims at all ?? 17s ?

Im in the same boat as planning to do Terrorstory rear brakes eventually and dont just want a right Now set of rims as they will have to clear eventually..

My 2 cents...

17x9 creates the best contact patch with a 275 et street.

Yes great times can and have been run on a 17x8 wheel. But.... In theory, faster times should be doable with the 9 inch wheel.

It's all about the shape of the contact patch that's on the road at any one point. I believe the data we use at work would probably support this also.

Yep spot on mate..

a 275-40-17 is recommended for a 9-11" rim so for drag only ill be going the 9s.. they are readily available in a 9 so yeah..

Id actually go up to a 10" rim before I came down to an 8" rim..

when maximising contact patch or "tread width" sucking them in on an 8" rim pulls the shoulder down and minimizes contact patch..

Tread width should be matched as close as possible to rim size with the rim walls lining up with the edge of the tread..

The Section width hangs over a bit and the sidewalls are then able to do their jobs properly..

Although in saying that a big trend in the states is to use the size up in Rim ie a 12" rim where a 10 is recommended and the normal practice,

and they are having good results with that setup :/

I had something like that on my last car and it went very well..

Side wall flex plays a big maybe just as big part as contact area especially low psi soft compound tyres hence why the 8 inch rim 275 combo has worked so well for so long

Totally agree,my 16x8s only just spread my 255/50/16 ET Streets,now way a 8" rim could make full use of the 275 tire.

Guys with 3-400rwkw ish get away with it but when hunting that sub 1.5 60ft a wider contact patch will be needed.Every bald set of 275s on a BA 17x8 rim has some meat left on the shoulder from what I've seen.

Exactly what im trying to say above.. The sidewalls will pull the shoulders downward and inward resulting in them NOT being used..

Tire pressure will compensate for this possibly but its NOT the ideal combination..

And as tyres "grow" it will bring the shoulder into play and there will be a loss in contact patch in the middle of the tyre..

Spreading a tyre with complementing tyre pressures will ensure the best grip all round hence why its a common thing overseas with the small tyre big power boys.. and yeah id hardly call 60s in the 1.5s fast.. not saying its not decent but im pretty sure with the correct combo 60s would be better..

im also going to say the 17x8 is a MUCH easier rim to come by and that's the main reason a lot of people have used them rather than them being the right rim for the job..

theres no use a sidewall doing its job if it hasnt got the perfect equally spread contact patch that it depends on to "hook"..

with a "rag" tyre its more important..radials are a diff story..

18psi is pretty high.. iv always run a FULL slick on 8-10 psi to let it do its job and id look at around 14ish with an ET street..

over inflating causes ballooning and dramatically narrowing the contact patch to only use the middle of the tyre..

its all well and good "theory" but the 275/8 inch combo has the rungs on the board for a very long time now

Whats the diff between a 8 inch or 9 inch rim would be so minuscule its not funny ( as long as this is the only changed factor)

I am not dealing in theory mate..

im talking about the years of research iv done into this and also transfering that into practice with my old car.. 60'd in the 1.2s and ALL suspention work etc was setup and tuned by myself with the information I gathered and learned both online and at the track..

when talking "runs on the board" im pretty sure guys going from a 1.8 street tyre and getting this to mid 1.5s are going to call that a success and be sastisfied

BUT im pretty sure with a bigger rim (9, 9.5 or 10) it would give a better result..

the only way is to test it back to back I guess..

Im not super up to date yet with what all the FASTer guys use with our cars but I dont think they are playing round with 275s on 8s.. ?

as said before based on my knowledge id prefer a 10" rim as opposed to an 8" job..
