Oops lol. Did he get any runs in before the breakage? I thought he said it was his input shaft earlier. Must have made a heap of noise,as I had one fail in my BF. The amount of crunching that went on wasnt a good sound to hear in the middle of nowhere. Poor bloke.

Credders,

Mate I suggest you go down to Nizpro and have a look for yourself regarding your gearbox.. They were the ones who were the first to make a billet input shaft 2yrs ago now and have been putting alot of time into these boxes with custom parts and such. If you dont get the trans right then all of your money spent on engine power ups are simply wasted. Being able to build and also do the trans tune under the one roof is an advantage as they can do the tune to suit the clearances and way the box is setup.. My own FG 50th will be down there as soon as my tax cheque clears for a full built box and E85 tune..

Best of luck with your ride.

Ok,just re read it,driveshaft looks nasty. Must have made some good noises. 3 input shafts though? Were they standard shafts? Obviously the weakest link in the driveline, closely followed by the driveshaft. Does it run a stronger tailshaft?

Thanks for the info xrsprint and thanks for your best wishes. Might have to give them a call aswell. Isnt the guy from Yarra, friends with Simon from Nizpro? I read that Yarra Valley Trans did the trans/input shaft in this 9sec car. Whats the difference with their input shafts and what others are using? Is that what Nizpro are using aswell? That seems to be the weakest point,so whoever is doing the best with that point, will be where I take mine. Like you said,I for sure dont want to be spending twice lol. When you see a 9sec car with no problems, its gotta be a good first sign that these 2 places are doing something right.

Is the Nizpro one Billet? I didn't think it was...

Been hearing a lot about new ZF builds to suit 600rwkw+ etc... But what is really been done to these boxes..?? Just fitting a stronger input shaft doesn't solve the problem.. What our people doing with the valve body and clutch packs etc....???

Hi.

It's only 2 input shafts(can't fn believe I said "only." ) I thought it was another on the weekend but turned out to be a driveshaft. My first input shaft was my std ford one and second was one of the vey early Nizpro ones. I think they have made a 2nd version which is 30% stronger and looks like perhaps a 3rd version to come for those chasing really big power figures and like to race like I do. Speak to Nizpro for full details. Yes, my tailshaft has been strengthened also. The car will always find a weak part I guess.

I read somewhere that machining drums for extra clutches or something is being done aswell. Beleive me when I say I have done alot of reading. Tune would have alot to do with how long they last aswell I suppose.. And a good aftermarket trans cooler setup. What do you mean by Billet?(excuse my lack of knowledge) Alot of coin at stake to make the mistake of going to the wrong person.

Oh ok,so they are working on an even stronger one now. Sounds good. Maybe they learnt something when they did the box in this car,so can copy or something. Yeah, stronger tailshaft is a must.. They are pretty common for twisting/breaking with big power. Yours should be bullet proof after the shafts are done mate. Goodluck.

I'm not an engineer but I believe billet means cut out of one block of metal(could be wrong. ) They also go through a heat treatment process for extra strength. Yes Nizpro do ZF beefed up clutch pack also.

You are best to call Simon for more info. I like the idea of getting everything done under the one roof. Left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

Goodwork to the owner and to all who built it. Im a bit confused though as Nizpro are saying they built the box when it was only built at Yarra Valley a few months ago.. What happened there? Must be a scary ride on the street.

Cheers Credders,

Mate im a mechanical engineer and well I guess a tightarse as well! By that I mean I do as much research as possible before I will hand over my hard earned on anything. The Nizpro shaft is just as the name suggests and is their own shaft. I dont know what the Yarravalley one is. I was shown the finish and tolerances on their part when I had a little chat with Dave down there and I can tell you now that the days of putting a C4 in these cars to go fast is over!!

I can assure you that it IS billet, cos its not forged or cast!! The factory one is forged and has a 'rolled' spline and has alot of backlash in the converter (they have their tolerance tighter for a nicer fit) and it is flame hardened (why no two standard ones look the same).

Extra clutches are added, billet intermediate shafts are an option also as are convereters.

I believe all changes are in the software for shifting etc and not done to valvebody...

Hope that helps a little.

Read the Fullboost writeup mate, Christian said Nizpro re did the box last week themselves....for what reason is unknown but what we do know is the thing went bloody fast! ;)

Congrats on the numbers Christian and sorry for Steve and Frank always next time, just one of those things we cop with modded cars.

Can anyone post pictures and video footage as some of us don't have facebook.
