lately I have noticed that on my ba 04 xr6t when I start my car it revs a lot higher than normal, before it would hit 1.5k at most on start and now it goes to 2k and higher and also idles a lot higher, at 1.5k instead of just under 1. when this happens after I have put the car into drive my check engine light comes on and it runs like a dog almost getting to the point of whats seems like stalling and if I try to accelerate its like its not even connected. so was just wondering is there anything I can do to fix this or while I have to pay a mechanic to do so?

cheers all
