Mine does it.

changing at 5000rpm into fith from fourth makes in really crunch. I took it to the dealer and they said they could not replicate the problem with a test drive...Slowpokes.

My dealer said they couldnt fault mine either so I asked the mechanic to come for a drive and sure enough it crunched every time , I even got him to change whilst I was driving and guees what it crunched. Makes me wonder how they test drive these vehicles, Its annoying being a mechanic for 18 yrs and being fed crap by your dealer. Anyways that's how Ford work. Take them for a drive

Yep theres a few ppl having the 5th gear problem me included and it will just get worse. There is a another thread started a couple of weeks ago that explains the cause. You will have to have the box replaced.

I think this has been spoken about before , does anyone know the actuall cause of this problem and is there a fix? My dealer said they are going to try and change the oil .

I have had the gearbox supliers out to look at mine and they changed the gearbox because it would not change from 5th to 3rd on a quick downchange. The new box got the 5th grinding problem after 2000kms and is loose in all gears. they are going to rebuild it. The oil change is a waste of time and will only frustrate you.

The problem is the brass they made the 5th gear synch ring out of is too soft and the crunching will only get worse.

:ermm: Was it a bad batch of gears? I have done 17000ks now and haven't noticed this. I will listen for it now to make sure. :ermm:
