Posted 27/12/03 12:59 PM Share Posted 27/12/03 12:59 PM Yes mate,Oil change won't help a bit, the dealer is giving you the run around. The problem is the brass they made the 5th gear synch ring out of is too soft and the crunching will only get worse.I got it in the Silverhawk and had a new gearbox fitted at 8000km.Fixed the problem OK and the replacement gearbox was better than the original. If you go faster the crunch gets worse, mine would be OK below 100kph but the faster you went the crunching got worse.See your dealer and demand a replacement gearbox. They have to get onto the manufacturer and they send a gearbox out and the dealer sends the old box back to them.Hope this helps.

Second gearbox lasted about 600km (it was a shocker - poor selector "feel", tight in all gears and crunched from the second day. Got about 9000km on the third box and all seems well, 'cept now my brakes are shuddering!!!!!!!Ah well, all warranty stuff. CiaoCFlat

CFlat Member 54 Member For: 21y 3m 13d Location: Canberra Posted 30/12/03 01:44 AM Share Posted 30/12/03 01:44 AM Oi,Bloke at the dealer said that Borg-Warner had mentioned that short-shifting (2nd to 5th or 3rd to 5th) had created some problems, and that it was not a good practice with these boxes - maybe because of the softer brass synchro ring??The "common fault" develops initially with crunching on high-speed 4th to 5th changes, and then progresses to every use of 5th.Once you notice a few dicky changes. you gonna get a free gearbox! I got three with mine so far! Now that's a bargain.CiaoCFlat
