WELL, I just paid off my HECS :dancing:

I put it on my AMEX so I get bulk frequent flyers (still had like $11,500ish owing on my HECS), so just have to wait for the payment to be processed and the 5% bonus for voluntary repayments to be credited to the account, then it should have a $0 balance and I'll officially have no more debt. I've got almost the entire amount in my savings ready to pay off the credit card balance, so by the time I get paid on the 15th of this month I'll have enough to pay off the credit card balance in full and a few grand savings but NO DEBT AT ALL!!! Not to mention that means I can let my employer know I don't have HECS anymore, so it'll feel like getting a payrise too, bonus!

I did also get a 1% payrise yesterday...definitely not a NHASP payrise, but it's better than a kick in the teeth I guess. Considering the state of the market, and what I hear from friends working at other places doing what I do, I get paid pretty well so I'm not complaining.

Cheers Wilko! Essentially I'll now have an extra $1,100 savings per month towards a house deposit. So by the time my lease is up in Feb I should easily be able to buy my own place if my current housemates decide to move on. If they decide to stay, then bonus coz it'd give me another year of hardcore savings with cheap rent!
