It is good to see that they have upgraded the packaging for the obdlink mx.

I like your idea too Rab, this Ebay item has my attention. This means that it can stay connected permanently and if I connect the xcal4, it dont have to unplug the obdlink mx.

The only thing that I am concerned about with this setup is whether or not there will be conflict between the two being on, at the same time.

Yeah - I'd be a bit concerned having the 2 connected at once.

Some functions on the MX warn against using them while the car is running because it can trigger issues/damage something - also some warnings on certain models. That indicates to me that there is the potential for issues if not used as intended, so 1 at a time for me.

edit: NOTE - THE ONE I LINKED WASN'T THE ONE I GOT. I got a straight male to female extension, not the double ender. I didn't check the product before I posted a link ^^, just did a quick google search.

So more like one of these 30cm extensions, which I would prefer compared to 60cm cables that you have to loop around something.

Although sometimes I wonder about putting a $5 cable into a connector, that if it's crap quality cable and there's some type of feedback, can seriously ruin your day.

Work van broke down, done the alternator in. Get told to wait for tow truck for 3 or 4 hrs then go home.
Pub across the road looks pretty good right now.

Off to site this arvo for the rest of the week (for the first time since #2 son was born) one of my best mates lives up there now (who's also #1's godfather) so no shitty camp stays for me. Plus have a list of people that want to buy me beer so should be quite the "working" holiday.

New kettle, toaster and sandwichmaker made me feel good today :)

Replacing $2 Shop crap I got when I split with the misses over a decade ago.

Irony is she'll be moving down this way in the short term and be needing the basics for her place - $2 Shop stuff is boxed and waiting for her ;)
