As above, chimney is super quick and easy but I don't rate tipping the coals/kindling/paper in the barby and having embers launch in all directions.

I lit mine the first time yesterday with the chimney, pretty hard to get wrong just make a bed of rolled up news paper and stack the fuel on top. Place in the bbq and light then close the bbq so the heat is trapped and the fuel fires up.

Second time I lit it yesterday I essentially did the same and but didn't use the chimney. It got to around 150 deg then dropped so I thought I'd lost it, then gave it a stir up with a stoker and it took off again.

Alright.. So lets play a game..

Do you rate the coal bbq over the gas bbq?

Is it simple enough that I could use it to replace the Gas burner?

ie: I'm in the process of redoing my outdoor area.. and I've decided one of those egg bbq's would look a crapload better with the look I'm going for.. But if it takes serious consideration to be able to use the bbq the idea is out the window..

I have a 6 burer Gas BBQ that I never use. Old Webber got used a couple of times a month. Once you've got the method dialled you can have the legit have the coal BBQ hot enough to cook on in 25mins.

I cook on it 2-3 times a week.

Gas is more convenient if you just want a quick snag (but may as well use a frypan in the kitchen) but the charcoal cooking is a way of life ;)

Tell me something like this wouldn't be more awesome that a 5 jet burner?

I love you guys

Kamado ftw

arronm - wtf f*ck is that thing and where can I get one?

Is it as fun to use as it looks?

Watertray insert at the bottom?

Electric elements top and bottom.

You just cant cook that much food in a normal oven.

What you couldnt see was the whole bottom of the tray was lined with meat below the potatoes.

Had a week/weekend where sh*t just clicked. Smashed out a heap of little nagging jobs around the house and made Wifey happy. Got my OpenSprinkler Retic working properly, sorted a new motor for my mower, picked up a bargain new BBQ,had a few beers with a good mate and cooked an awesome Pizza and a couple of killer steaks to top it off.

Totally fingered now but happy.
