The game Rocksmith 2014 made me feel good today. For those that don't know, it's kind of like guitar hero except you can use real guitars. Not some proprietary guitar either, I can use my Fender Stratocaster and my LTD with this game.

I bought it more out of curiosity than anything else. A friend bought the older version and said it was ok, but nothing flash. This new 2014 edition is actually pretty rad. Easy to use and decent selection of songs in different styles, tunings and experience levels. I started playing guitar when I was about 8 or 9 but never really went very far with lessons or anything, so I'm not a beginner but I also have a lot I can learn. I haven't really done any of the lessons or tutorials yet, as I've been having too much fun learning songs! Been learning Aerials by System of a Down and Isolation by Alter Bridge to name a couple...as well as a few A Day to Remember songs.

I currently have a blister on my pinky finger and my other fingers are sore from playing so much guitar. I haven't played this much and this regularly in years! Was a bit of messing around initially to set it all up with my theatre system so there was no audio delay between when I played a note and when it sounds through my hifi, but once sorted I've been really enjoying it. Only thing I don't like too much is the guitar tuner inbuilt into the game, small grievance but it only lets you play through each string once while tuning and it moves onto the next string when it registers each string as being in tune...which may not necessarily be 100%.

Other than that I'm pretty stoked so far. Any guitar players who are also gamers should give it a go. I also think it would be a decent way to learn for a beginner, although I'll reserve judgement until I've started working through the lessons.

Nice. Have always wanted to play guitar, only had a random strum a couple times though. Too much time spent gaming or surfing the web.

Well I figure this is a good thing, it's got me using my Xbox One and I'm actually doing something constructive and enjoyable with my time too. There releasing a free Jimi Hendrix DLC song pack middle of December too, looking forward to that!

Also, if you've always wanted to learn then you should just do it Steve!

Listening is enough for now. I'm content just being Hammett in my dreams.
