Why should kids stand up? Keep em out of the way of all the psychos, paedos and pushing and shoving people standing up, they need to be protected. Not gonna hurt a fat middle aged woman to stand up for a bit.

I understand if they are old and incapacitated, but other than that first come first served.

Agree ^^ If the person is of able body then no matter their age, they have equal right to sit/stand. If you're handicapped or pregnant or have some other physical requirement to "sit in a seat", then you get priority over a regular able-bodied person.

Unless you are a smoking hot chick in which case you should stand so I can check you out and watch your air bags when the ride gets bumpy.

I don't use public transport. But does everyone' pay the the same ticket price. In my day when the bus got full the driver would ask half fares to stand

In Melbourne only concession card holders (for whatever reason they hold it) pay half price, so that includes disabled, handicapped etc, so that idea wouldn't work... Everybody pays a different rate depending on how far they are travelling and whether or not they have concession, monthly/yearly passes etc.

I think part of the concession/school kids price is the condition to stand for the elderly/infirm etc

Can't remember how it was worded or if it's still current (could have been Vic only)

We don't work (most of us) in the public transport industry; We rely on it to get to and from our workplaces.

Rab, I think that should be a universal rule (if it's not already); your seating on generic public transport should be irrelevant of the price you pay.
