Estimator for a structural steel mob the majority of the work is two story joints, this one is a ringer factory extension 70mtr's x 45mtr's with 700WB130 columns 11mtr's high.

Spent the first 20 years of my working life all day every day in a .0005" tolerance now I'm trying to get my head around this :pooh:

Nothing paltry about 500k when it's only one component of the total cost.. 500k in structural steel (supply only) would be quite an expensive little job..

Gotta hate it when an estimate doesn't quite reach a milestone though.. Could fudge it up to a half mil quote and risk not getting the job.. Or do you fudge it down to 450 and hope you've got a better chance at winning it..

Haha tolerances in estimating are pretty varied.. Do you allow a certain margin for risk? Just to bolt on some extra fat if need be?

We quote at $/m rates with most of the back end delivery, crane, fab, etc working on weight basis.

It was good to have a win for a change as it seems to me like I've done everything wrong since the day I started....

It'll take a bit to get used to it.. You used to be a solid works operator or something didn't ya?

If you need any help with estimating ie: First Principle or Monte Carlo (Not sure if you'll get a job that big) I can help if needed.
