I like the way you are going 2 6.5" for subwoofers. people often make the mistake that thinking bigger subs will make lower bass...

because people underestimate smaller drivers, even though they re actually better. A bigger driver, will just reproduce the lower sound much louder as its the nature of the deign. More surface area = more air moved = more noise. Problem is they are sloppy. play a fast double kick or quick techno and a large driver will lag behind the song. A properly constructed enclosure, with a 6.5 mid bass will create quite suprising bass, with very very accurate and punchy response. Combine that with a midrange (3-4 inches usually) and a quality tweeter, and you will have one killer front stage. Big drivers (10,12+) only are really needed for spl applications, purely for ease and convenience. less drivers needed to re create crazy noise. P - platers are just lazy and take the cheap sh*t way out to get dirty, license plate shaking bass, that gives you a headache after 10 minutes ;)

2 x 13's FTW!!! vision blurring bass :sungum:

But honestly I got these and I find in the JL spec ported box the very low notes are abit too much for daily listening..... but when it gets cranked its a blissful feeling. Im building a sealed box to flatten it out when I can be bothered

Knoles,

You will find with the right box those jlw13 or whatever they are called will be about the closest you will get to SQL from big drivers. Very nice bit of gear. Unless you spend thousands. Definitely sealed. 1 is plenty. Will handle 1000rms no worries

They are very nice sounding subs, I've only had them in for a week and first impressions are VERY punchy and can go very loud. My only issue is the box they are in, bass overtakes everything else on notes around the port tuning frequency.

EDIT: Boot space? The box only fit in by about 10mm at the top when I removed the rear trim piece and it had to taper from 820mm at the top down to 760mm on the base so it would sit in the well and also to fit it in the boot opening. So much wasted time building that. Oh well, its all trial and error.

I also like a sealed box, both for size and control of the driver...

I've got type r 6.5 splits up front.type r 6.5 co ax on the back and 2 type r 12s in a measured volumetric box. All of this is driven by a Pdx 100x4 and a Pdx 1000 mono. Got a good line level converter and a big capacitor too. Sound deadening under parcel shelf and also got cut up pillow under the parcel shelf too. I'm probably going to get rid of one of the subs though. Too much bass for my liking, and it will give me my boot back

This might help... Just remember whatever you pick, speakers and audio gear is a personal thing - just like a women, what you might like to listen to (nagging in the case of a women) your mates may not...

Go into some good audio stores and take a cd of your own in, spend some time taking a listen and see how you go from there.. . :)

Yea I think that's what I'm gonna do mate, It seems as though personal preference plays such a role in what people choose and at the end of the day how many people actually change their speakers enough to make good comparisons! Going to head out to an audio shop when I get closer to buying and test all the speakers in my price range out
