I threw a leg out of bed at 164,000km, 308rwkw, on pulp, whether it was the gudgion that went first, I'll never know. either way if its old, or your not running e85(by the sounds of it) it will give up the ghost eventually. Start saving brass, if your heading for low 300's,its in that time frame. For the sake of 50rwkw, and no car, leave it stock and leave block intact.

But then what happens when the e85 is 80 or 90?

If it's E80 then it would be richer and more likely to knock with the same tune in it, depending on how the tuner has worked out the spark table.

If E90 then it would start to get leaner , but would be more tolerant of knock assuming the car has been tuned for E85.

With the electronic testers we have seen, we have seen united E85 as 84-85% ethanol although the test tube type testers show 90%+

cylinder pressure is what breaks pistons and rods, the more power, the more cylinder pressure needed, knock events cause a drastic rise in cylinder pressure which is why damage gets done quickly when a motor pings.

400 rwkw for example would be safer on e85 compared to 400 on 98, but 380 on 98 may be safer than 400 on E85 assuming spark tables are set correctly
