~5.5k should be upgraded input shaft & flexplate full stock otherwise rebuild.

Stock ZF you can get considerably cheaper, especially if buying a "2nd hand" unit.

Yep. I get its a complex transmission but come on...

This price was for standard input shaft etc. The bloke was like yeah not many turbos snap input shafts but a lot of the v8s do. Uhuhhhh.... obviously the high power turbos don't take them there haha

basically a brand-new (internally) stock ZF with an input shaft + flexplate is around that price.

If you have one wearing out you'd only pay to rebuild your current one though wouldn't you?  No need to buy a whole second transmission.

That's still what it costs to recondition one... it's time consuming :). The cost of a decent billet input shaft is a reasonable portion of that cost, too.
