It has the mattress part on both sides. We also bought a 2 part base for it. All up it came to $1900. The mattress was $1500. I've broken beds in the past from bedroom antics but this one has lasted so far. My only gripe is when we bought it I weighed 85kg and now that I'm a hundred it gets dented quickly. I've got the time and heat sorted so that my sh*t doesn't shrink too badly, so I hate coming back to find my clothes in the dryer on a heat setting that resembles the sun and having been in there for god knows how long.
