buying (at least) a 2nd home - you're already better off financially than a huge portion of the population = no sympathy.

But I also wouldn't have to put up with people that have lived in this country for 50 years and won't ( pretend that's bold ) speak English

worst thing is you pay stamp duty on a house that has already had stamp duty paid (if established already).

LOL @ the notion that solely hard work get's you enough money to pay off more than a single mortgage in a lifetime.

Keep living in your bubble, mate.

Also, I'm not looking for sympathy.

Yes stamp duty sucks alright, just don't pay it twice like we had to.

We bought a investment property about 8 years ago and put it in both our names as we were both working.

Well 2 years ago the wife took a redundancy and got a part time job.

But she doesn't earn more than 22 grand a year so doesn't pay tax.

This left us in a position where I could claim a tax return on only my half of the property and my wife could claim none which effectively halved our tax return.

The only way round it was for me to buy my wife's half so I could claim the full tax return.

That meant I had to pay stamp duty on the property again!

Just something to be aware of when buying investment property.
