Plus, our dog is an inside dog - he doesn't shed at all, so doesn't leave the house full of hair, which is his saving grace. He'd be an absolute pest (more than he already is) if we left him outside at night. I like to feel I'm quite resilient...the broken sleep is what scares me the most about having kids, as I'm not really a great sleeper as it is.
