Probably need a 12 meter cat 5 :P

The folks use a powerline adapter like these that work really well to get the network to the TV/Stan box with no issues

(saves running a cable through the loungerooom or getting under the house, into the ceilings)

??

Am tipping both the modem and the TV are next to a powerpoint of some sort

Plug one end to the powerboard where the TV is. Cat 5 to TV

Plug the other end to the powerboard where the modem/router/switch is. Cat 5 to router

No need to overthink it ;)

If you've got the cash get a data point installed or even consider ceiling mounted wifi access points.

I happen to run data points where there once was an ethernet over power adapter a few times a week, its a funny coincidence.

I ran one for a few years no problems though.

In both cases that would require a powerboard off the current powerboard that is sharing a double adapter from the wall with an extension cord to get power across the room for other stuff ie: aircon units that would overload a powerboard if it was shared.

Before anyone gets too worried it all goes through a few 16A rcbo's and the lounge/tv and bedroom/desktop are on different circuits.

I suppose I could get some new powerboards that have 6 or 8 outlets for now to accommodate the extra plug.

The nbn install could only be done in the back room so I've run a ethernet cable from the nbn thingo through the roof to my room which has the router/modem. This provides a fairly central wifi access point that covers the entire house and several metres into the yards.

I think I like the idea of getting data points installed through out the rooms that will use it. This will probably be done down the track when more major renovations take place as I'd only want to install it once.

Think bigger ;)

The slots with extra space are great for the wider plugs too

Could also get powerpoints with more outlets attached (or more outlets)

Yeah I've made do with what I've got for a while now but only just.

Short of doing it properly ie: more power points and possibly more circuits (which wont happen until the house gets done up), bigger powerboards will have to do.

It's just a matter of balancing it all so nothing shuts down. So far so good though.

So far so good.

If I run into issues I'll get another circuit or two installed for the aircon units as they are the biggest power users.
