I'm a Star Wars fan, can still remember seeing the trailer in 1977 while standing inline at a movie theater (I was 12 years old).

Can still remember the thrill of the trailer and thinking at the time that I just had to see that movie, it looked like nothing I had ever seen before!!!!!!

This is a bit of a spoiler, so if you haven't seen the movie stop right here.

Fast forward 38 years,me and my wife went and saw "The Force Awakens" on Monday

BTW, IMO, the force did not awaken at all.

The intro was like going back 38 years, which I thought was just to relive the original movie, back then it was totally amazing, but now space being a lot of small white dots (all the same size) definitely looks dated.

Again, the 1977 movie gave a real feeling that the imperial star destroyer was massive as it came onto the screen like it was passing the movie theater over head, filling the whole screen from side to side as it chased Princess Leia's ship.

The force (that never) awakens, shows a similar opening scene, but the bottom of the massive ship is in darkness so you loose all perspective of its size and detail.

For me, the film had so much potential, but failed to deliver, like the opening scene, there were many times in the movie where it lacked the quality that should have been there.

In this day and age of high definition clarity that we can see even on our TV's at home, it was disappointing not to see this on the big screen.

In 1977 they spent 11 million, 38 years on, they spend 200 million.

IMO, with all that money spent it was a little bit of a disappointment that not only the graphical content lacked, but the story line was so similar to the original, the Empire builds a planet destroying weapon, the rebels destroy it just in time.

Even down to the (almost) last rebel fighter flying into the said weapon to destroy it.

Don't get me wrong, It was still a "good" movie, just not great like it should have been.

I'm sure a 12 year old boy would have been amazed by it.

Being 51, I'm a little bit more critical, I still had the excitement and expectation as I walked in to the theater, arms full of the largest popcorn and drink I could buy.

I left the movie theater feeling a little bit cheated.
