You know I used to live in a smallish town.. And once I got seen speeding by one of the local older coppers (real nice bloke)..

Didn't get pulled up, didn't get fined.. Just got a friendly wave as I went past and he turned up to my work a few hours later in the middle of the night to get a feed like he normally did and gave me a lecture in front of my dad and about 5 other staff on the dangers of speeding like I was.. To this day I would of rather gotten a fine..

But I think the fine wouldn't of been as effective..

Cameras are cheap and they raise revenue. Not an option if you want to fix a problem. Police out and about and visual are the answer.

Seriously what do you feel when you see one?

Let the younger generation feel that.

It is proven cameras were effective once at reducing speed related fatalities..

When they were first introduced in 98 there was a rapid decline in speed related fatalities.. Unfortunately by 2000 most people realised cameras weren't everywhere so the chances of being caught were slim.. So they all sped up and speed related fatalities increased again..

So seeing this pattern the cheapest option for the government is to put in more cameras and hope they scare the masses into slowing down..

Ahh... This rears it's head again. Do you have access to that information? Can you PM or FB it to me, please? I'm sceptical.

Still... at least it's some data.
All of the data I've found on the internet on government sites and such is useful, but only to an extent. None of it echo's your statements in here, which is why I'm sceptical...

I understand the skepticism.. I only got the data when I did a training course in road crash investigation and road crash pattern analysis.

To the best of my knowledge it wasn't actually ever published on the transport department websites.

Why would the RTAs want to publish something that will contradict their argument for installing more speed cameras?

I think the truth is speed limits on average have dropped and cars have become safer and that is the reason fatalities haven't increased in the face of increased traffic on our roads. Driver education, overall skill and awareness haven't been something that the governing bodies have cared about at all.

From the majority of data I have managed to gather points to speed ONLY as a contributor on less than 4% of data. If you combine speed with some other modifier, of course that percentage goes up; I interpret these changes as the other modifier more than likely influencing the speed related data in a way that suits the decisions and enforcement tactics of the government(s) regarding speed camera's.
