Ratter could you hear any knock when driving?

Is it riskier to custom tune after copping that for a while?

Changing the pump shouldn't require a tune.

The best generic tunes will probably come from some of the best tune shops if they do them. I heard the other day that Spiro at Autotech will do them if you're that way inclined.

Benny.

I'm having a chat with Spiro on Monday in regards to this.

I think a lot of people don't get that I'm doing the modifications to the car myself and I want to be able to run the vehicle so that in a couple of months I can go and get the custom tune and not have to fork out money to a tuner to do things like installation that I've already done, and save myself some cash. I think it's ridiculous some of the prices that these tuners ask for, I've been quoted $600-$900 for just the labour to do my valve springs, whereas in my area I can use quite a few very reputable mechanics who will only charge $400 for the same job.

My intentions aren't to drive the car hard, I just want to drive the car. If people would read my question properly they would see that I don't want the generic tune so I can thrash my car. Also, I've heard from quite a few people who have had generic tunes on their cars for years not say one bad word about it and have had no problems with their vehicle other than general maintenace, which you're going to get either way. The purpose of the question is to get some feedback from others with experience with generic tunes.

But thanks Benny for being the only person to give a response that is in any way useful rather than just making some rubbish comment that is completely irrelevant to the questions I've asked.

Cheers

did not drive it on the road, ping could not be heard over engine, exhaust, tyre or fan noise, but I did not have knock detection equipment on the car as the owner just wanted a standard dyno run.

Yes, a tune like this may have created damage that may show up when it is tuned later on.

no worries mate, I used to do generic tunes a while back, but because of the variance of what I have seen with the forced induction cars, I chose not to do them anymore rather than having risk their engine and I get the blame for it, good luck with yours.

I just sent a box and tune file to tassy for an owner that will be bringing his car in for tuning, he needed to get it on and off the ship and has done a few mods including 1000 cc injectors and turbo port etc etc, so sent a file which should run the car and have a 3000 rev limit in it, this should allow him to get it to us.

Yeah I must agree, theres a lot more generic tunes out there than custom tunes. I have done a heap of ringing around. Many sell CAPA tunes. In the end I bought a tune off Bruce Hienrich Performance Tuning after many conversations as they are his own tunes that he has spend a lot of time getting right. He stands behind his tunes, and doesn't send you a disclaimer as well .

Cheers
