Ok Jet, let me ask you this question. If you asked Bruce for a generic tune would you have faith in what he gave you? Cheers

It was only intended as a short-term thing while I was installing the parts, the purpose of the thread was to find out if it was a viable option or not. The plan isn't for things to go wrong (!!), but from what I've read so far it's looking like that can't be predicted. Probably looking like a custom tune is the only way to go! Thanks for all the advice, it's much appreciated.

your welcome,

Had a mate a few years ago with a BA GT, he purchased a Capa non intercooled supercharger kit and flash box, it was loaded with a generic tune, the thing pinged from the start and he would not fork out for a custom tune, injectors or a 2 bar map sensor, just left the kit as he got it.

He ended up trading it with enough crank case pressure to blow the dip stick out at idle.

good luck with it

If it were me I wouldn't if I was chasing performance... but something to literally get from a to b due to having no choice then yeh for sure.

It's your car though and you know your options... Just don't complain if you make a dumb decision and it falls to sh*t.

Do some checks. Find out how many generics cause damage, then find out cost of short engine plus labour, then cost of custom tune.

Weigh it all up, there is a good motto in modding cars " the poor man pays twice"

Read the 400, 500 and 600+ sections and see the levels of wallet raping, then check the 300 section and see how many b series guys (myself included) have got their the hard way and spent a lot more than needed

All Fords come out of the factory with generic tunes. All FPVs have a different generic tune. Ford knew what they were doing when they did their tune.

Now bring out a tuner who left school at yr 10, smokes too much pot and can barely read to create a generic tune, it does not always work out.

Yes you can create a generic tune for a particular engine setup. Its is done by all the major auto manufacturers around the world.

But just a different brand fuel pump or fuel can cause problems.

So yes you could get something that works that has been tried and tested on a set recipe of mods but then you could get a wog tune. Hit and miss.

If you are just going to pussy it around to get it to the workshop and not load it up it should be OK.

But you should never load it up without checking the tune with someone who knows what they are doing

Just do everything bar the injectors and be very careful driving it. And try to get a custom tune as soon as possible. Everything I have done and am doing was done in my garage at home and then driven to the tuner. I have a surge tank and 4" exhaust installed at the moment and will be installing a turbo then driving it to the tuner where he will put the injectors in and tune it. Be warned though, it is very, very hard to not put your foot down. Especially when someone pisses you off lol.

factory cars, although yes have I guess a generic tune, but do have various different tunes, not all the same model car has the same tune, BA autos have a heap of different tunes from the factory, but how the hell can you compare a factory tune to an aftermarket generic tune????

The factory tune is set for low boost, lower quality fuel and power is not the major consideration and it has a huge window of safety in it, an aftermarket generic tune is about the power, to get the power more boost has to be run as well as good quality fuel and this safety window has to be closed right up, which in some cases basically disappears.
