Motul turbo light... it's made for the engines we run 10/ 40 which is the current recomendation from ford for our cars.

BP Visco 5000 5w40 synthetic oil at only $29.00 for four liters its half the price of Redline all Amsoil.

With the tempiture of 46C yesterday it handles the heat well in the out back.

How have you found the Visco 5000? My Ford dealer said that Visco 5000 being 0W40 was to thin for the turbo and that it would cause it to burn oil.

What does everyone think?

I use Visco 5000 synthetic in my Subaru, but not my T. BP doesn't even recommend its use in the XR6T (check their website - they recommend their Visco 3000 15w -50 mineral oil).

I use magnatec 10w-40 in the engine and 11.5 litres of Tranzmax Z in the modded tranny.

Works perfectly.

I use castrol formula R 0w40 full synthetic.

mineral oil for running in.

formula r is now called edge.

it seems to work for me.I change it every 7500km.my engine is spotless inside.

remember oil pressure is the VVT's control mechanism in which the ECU obviously makes the decision based on the pressure reading it receives.

I used to have a TD Jackaroo, in which the injection system was ECU controlled using oil pressure (CAT system). In this engine the viscocity of oil used greatly affected the performance of the engine.

Just some food for thought!!!

PS I doubt whether 0-40....5-50...10-60.....10-40 would feel much different in an XR6T though??? but I have not experimented so have no truth in this.

Take 3............simon from Xtreme used 10w-60 Castrol edge in his phoon with 380 - 400 at the tyres and when he stripped the engine at ?????kms (~ 15,000 - 20,000kms id expect) he expressed to me his disbelief that the engine was as clean as a whistle despite ringing its neck.

Hi All

My car is in having it's first service today. I spoke to the service manager about my desire to change the oil and filter, even though ford doesn't think it's necessary.

He agreed it was a good idea for the turbo's and asked if I had any preference in oil type. I asked him what he recommended and he said they use castrol full synthetic, not sure of the exact designation.

Carefull kawerx, we use castrol edge at work and unless there are a couple of different viscosities available (which I don't doubt), the gold container which we get is 25/50.... to thick for the T's.

Myself guys, I opt for every 5000k changes using egine flush on the way out, and wynns friction proofing on the way in..... Oil of choice is Shell helix ultra 5w/40, full synthetic (use it in my charade too). I have found that the friction proofing does make a difference you can feel in speed of revving, albeit only minor.
