What Gauges Does Everyone Use

Not sure if you know shift preformance in lansvale but they quoted me $139 for boost gauge and about $120 for oil temp gauge plus $80 for each install.

To me that's a lil too much even though I got no clue how much they should charge and he didnt even mention the brand.

He also mentioned about some kind of adapter for the boost gauge that id have to get aswell.

Boost will work on a stockie..

Id suggest oil pressure over temp.

Oil pressure is more important as coolant temp will give a rough idea of oil temp

Just drive for at least 10 minutes before giving your car a thrashing, or 15 on very cold mornings. Having an oil temp gauge has shown me it takes that long to reach 70° which is my arbitrary safe-to-thrash zone. Sits around 80-90° when fully warmed. Knowing this you could just skip the gauge. Coolant in mine gets to max temp (bit over 1/4, cooler thermostat) in ~5mins. Oil temp sensor can still be bottomed out at 50°, doesn't go lower.

If your oil pressure drops through the floor would you notice the gauge quick enough to pull over though? Having said that I like having the both of them to complement my boost gauge just so keep a lazy eye on things.

^ not really.. If you own an oil temp gauge you'll notice as Steve mentioned that coolant temp is no indication of oil temp

My coolant will be up to normal operating temp and oil won't even be at 100f yet and I wait till 140f to give it a little and gets up to around 180f when fully warm.

Engine will still run with hot or cold oil, BUT it wont keep running long without oil pressure.

The best gauges have both a visual and audible warnings.

Gauges are useless if your not watching them when an event happens.

agree about the warning function in a gauge.....looking at a set atm but can't make a final yes/no decision

I have autometer nexus

flash red when the gauge hits a set parameter ie overboost, low oil press etc.

oil press is much more important than oil temp - no point worrying about oil temp if its not pressurised.... cold oil can live with, hot oil can live with, you cant live with no oil pressure.....

I have the aeroforce gauges, nice but pricey. The 2 gauges connect via a single cable to the obd2 port (provides power as well) and you can see all the obd2 parameters (boost, coolant temp, battery voltage, intake temp etc.). Each gauge displays 2 parameters in digital format. There are programmable visual alarms - can be used as a shift light, or oil pressure warning. Each gauge also accepts 2 analogue inputs, so you can connect up oil temp and oil pressure using the seperate sensors. They sell the sensor kits as well, they even have a wideband afr sensor.

I use a stingray car security plate which replaces the tissue box holder in the FG. With the plate and the gauges it takes 10 mins to hook up. The gauges are not in the line of site, more a stealth sort of look, obviously you cant look at them while driving hard.
