Some quick snaps from today, Perfect weather here today so got the motorbike out haha only spent a few hours this afternoon working on the final few coats of paint and sanding.

This is after 2000 grit wet and dry, there were a few imperfections in the paint work from the first 3 coats ( Orange peel, flakes of dust, lines weren't quite right etc

2-4.jpg

Last 4 coats of Acrylic Gloss, Overall fairly impressed with the result, I would say there is minimal orange peel now, paint imperfections or dust. All that is left now is to let that dry, and depending on how it comes up in a few hours, 4-6 coats of clear..

I have done all this work either at work, or in my shed, all done by hand, including paint, which is only spray can stuff :)

awesome work fletty

the only thing I would have done differently is the paint colour choice. personally I would have tried to match the surrounding dash colour to help blend it in more, atm gloss black stands out too much for me.

but seriously good work otherwise.

Think you have done a top job, as a owner my self of a MK2 I really want them above the ICC. Hope someone makes them soon for above the ICC, just looking down would do my head in and probably crash trusting my luck. I like where Luke( Ralph Wiggum ) has them, 1 on left and 1 on right behind steering wheel. Luke if reading this can you take a pic on how it looks from drivers seat.

pazz ring top end audio, they have something out now.

or pm boganspeed he has a tri guage above his icc in his fg mkII

I was going to paint it flat grey, but I decided to match the other gloss black interior plastics and I think now it will make it a bit more of a feature for the interior.

Just to show the difference in the paintwork now

Yeah I got Top End Audio to do mine, but he cut the original cover and fit the guage cups into it because OEM covers were not in stock for him to premake one.

Myabe that's changed now.

The only issue is the guage cups are black and the ICC cover is grey, still looked okay, but I cut and shut a black dash mat and now it looks pretty good.

Good job reducing the orange peel how many hours have you spent in total to make this ?

Yea, there is still a bit there, but is minimal compared to what I started with. I would say I have spent close to 10 hours?

Hey Fletty how do you get the gauge to hold itself in? Does it clip into something?

Also do you recommend having the gauges before doing this? I was going to give it a crack but don't have gauges as of yet

Im going to wrap the gauge in double sided tape foam, the 2mm thick stuff will be a snug fit but hopefully no movement or squeeks :)

I would reccommend getting the gauges first, although they are all 52mm I found some vary, The pvc pipe I used was as close of size I could get to the gauge. You could also try cardboard rolls like the stuff alluminium foil is wrapped around, your local craft shop may have some too in different sizes.

Sweet thanks for the help! I measured things up and I think you could squeeze in 3 gauges but gotta make sure I get the right angle so I think it'll be best to get the gauges to test fit and stuff. Yea I was going to go to a plumber or something and get some scrap PVC but maybe a cardboard roll will do the trick.

The gauges don't generate any heat at all do they given they light up and stuff? This is could be the only issue with using double sided tape or the like because if it gets warm enough it could melt the stickiness of the tape.

I worked out prices of everything I'd need and looks like I should be able to do 3 gauges and pod for a touch over $300 and a bit of effort lol (that's using SAAS gauges like yourself). Defiantely worth it considering the SS gauge pod for my FG is $275 on its own
