Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a HID Lo Beam H4 kit of ebay that came with the ballasts and Phillips 4300k bulbs.

Everything installed pretty easy and the Lo Beams switch on fine with Parkers and the Fog lights all working fine.

However if I go to switch on the High beams the Lo beams switch off and no lights...

Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

I've used the chassis to ground the ballasts. Should I change and plug the ground wire into the original plug that plugged into the standard Halogen globes?

Or is there something else wrong?

Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance.

Johann

If you only purchased a Low kit, not a High/Low, then the low beam WILL turn off, as the factory high beam portion of the low beam globe is only engaged by the relay which normally switches on the secondary lighting within the standard H4 globe...

If your HID bulb wiring only contains two of the three prongs, that is the problem you will face. There is a way around it, but it involves bypassing/hooking onto a relay to make sure that when the high beam is engaged that the voltage remains across the low beam light is also maintained.

If this is for a B-series, I believe that if you hold the stalk back (not push forward) it will remain on (both high and low beams), but if you push the stalk forward it will only turn on the high beam globe, as the normal H4 will engage the secondary low-beam filament through a relay (which is not connected to yours as it currently stands) as well as the stock high-beam globe.

Hopefully this makes sense.

For the high beam's not working at all, this is pretty much unrelated to the low beam circuitry used for the HID. I'd be checking if a fuse (or relay) is blown first, then secondly check the connectors to the globes are snug and not rusted (e.g. quality electrical connection)
