Hi lads,

changing my stock zf with a supplied rebuilt one tomorrow, I believe that I need to swap the TCM over with the build one to match up with my car?

Can anyone give some help or experience with this? what is involved with a TCM changeover????

Thanks

when I asked simon from xft about this he said that the valve body of the trans has to match the car so u have to have either the original trans rebuilt or swop over your std valve body into the built box.

now what got me confused is the fact that valve body modification is apart of the "built" process so why would u want a stock valve body in there after u paid for a built one ? I take it this is why simon said send your trans for the re build dont get another one from a wreckers etc etc

also ive seen built boxes being sold left right and center so there muct be an easy way of changing over the " vin coded" electronics in the trans or either re flashing the ecu with the new electronics to be coded to your std ecu/tcm module.

id love a straight answer aswell ................so I rang the horse and this is what he told me

Ok so I have swapped the gearboxes over and changed the the valve body and TCM from the stock box to the rebuilt ZF box. There are 10 bolts then comes straight out.

will post a pic later when I get the chance

this is the issue for me if your paying for "work " to be done to the valve body of the "built " box uve now just lost that " work "that's been done c what iam saying its a issue that need some explaining from these zf builders I think

its my understanding that the valve body is not (in my case anyway) modified. All the line pressures in the valve body etc can be change via ZF tune, the ZF TCM is apart of the valve body.

either way, car ran fine, and I can tell its been modified... will reset all the ZF tune I had and start again to suit the built box.....

I spoke to simon and again this could be a bit of hot air but he said he spends 7hrs on the valve body alone doing mods and such so that's whats got me thinking I would want the modified body in the box not a stocker

I had read on AFF, you can swap boxes with exact make and type. So a FG series 1 box should work in another FG Series 1, but wont work in BF or FG mk II and so on. I think Rob Herrod posted something of the sort.
