Nothing much to tell

Powder staminade was the thing before the gatorades etc became the norm

Couple of spoons in a glass of water gave you back what the sweat took out.

Salty and electrolytes

Anyway - riding through NT - full leathers, camelback for hydration

Visor gets squished bugs - couple of drops from the camelback and a wipe cleans it

Could of drops of staminade and a wipe... doesn't

Then - refill time - the staminade is basically a salt - leaves crystals that block everything in the tubes, a worse and worse taste as it gets more and more dilluted. Any metal bits - high salt, high electrolyte solution = rusty taste real quick.

Good rinse didn't fix - this was the early days of camel backs - am tipping something reacted with the bladder - went brown and then fragile.

Not sure that the setups are now, but they used to have spring loaded valves at the mouth too - that was the bit that rusted after a day later.

was worth it, still

Was glorious for the first few hours - then it got warm and tasted like warm, smelly sock juice

The early Camel backs had a plastic "coat hanger" sort of contraption that went into the filler hole and expanded out so it would dry inside. Nothing a peg on the filler hole didn't fix while hanging up and the good old pipe cleaner for the hose or for the military it was the barrel cleaning attachment with some swab...

Some had vodka and whatever cordial could be acquired which was a true winner OS at the time!
