Oh... You only want to go engineering. How boring??? Why do you think I didn't get into it?

Smart isn't being able to cover one subject...

Basic Maths (engineering) and Physics are not a problem for me. Let's go to Chaos and Fractals... Or infinite variable calculus... Wave theory... Hilbert spaces? Or hang on, let's test English and artistic skills... Oh, that's right... You are one dimensional, hence never taken a Mensa test... I don't know many other people who have completed two Maths, literature, English, physics, Chem and art and received straight A+'s in VCE... Oh, I can also program in over 20 languages and have designed an integrate general ledger for POS systems.

Who is that you're referring to?

But yeah it's getting way off-topic...might just split these posts in to a "tell us how good you are" thread considering you've now dropped the how hard done by you are tangent.

You lie Worm.. Unless you're related to pazzo.

I'm not knocking how smart you are Worm.. I also think I'm sort of smart.. Young(ish) age.. Regarded quite highly in my profession..

But I'm not a one directional thinker as you label me. Many years decorating wedding cakes for a living and still do (art).. Baker/Pastrycook and Chef by trade.. Degree in engineering. Masters in International Business and currently attempting a doctorate in road safety (Engineering and Psychology).

I'm surprised someone with your IQ (higher then Stephen Hawking?? Pretty sure I read somewhere he was around 160ish.. ) and list of talents is a teacher. But to that I say good job.. Going through school my teachers were crap and couldn't challenge me so I grew bored very easily. I wasn't an A+ student.. Was an A Average.. And almost failed solely based on attendance :-O. (Apparently you need 75-80% attendance in QLD).

Never taken a Mensa test.. But I'm keen to look into it..

I was just being a smartarse (obviously) as I get sick of people slamming teachers... Obviously there are some (VERY) sh*t people in the profession.

I am at a school now where only 3 people are capable of taking high level maths, 2 specialist maths... I want to change schools as the other two are going to retire in a couple of years... I had an experience the last term without them as they are married (for 30 years) and she had breast cancer last term... Really tested me. I was teaching all senior Maths, had about 120 kids seeing me constantly and was at school 7am till 5:30-6pm and then coming home to work. Needless to say, I am burnt out at the moment and have taken long service leave...

We have heaps of kids from Afghanistan... They are amazing workers, however, most of them have no education before year 9, and work really hard to get up to higher level Maths in year 11 and 12... They are generally bright, but they demand so much help and attention... It's taken the amount of hours we work to a new level...

I know some people are slackers... And some are very incompetent... We end up picking up the slack. I have in fact resigned my job as a Leading Teacher next year, as I am sick of trying to get others to an acceptable level. They are clearly incapable.

If anyone who is a teacher thinks teaching is "easy" they are doing it wrong. Obviously they are oblivious to their shortcomings...

Oh and re: Mensa... It all started when I used to work in IT. They had a TV show on and there was 72 questions. The guys at work asked me how I went, and I replied "I got 71"... They were surprised, and then said "we thought you would have gone better than that?"... I was like "You can only get one mark higher?"... Then they decided I was full of sh*t... They thought I meant IQ 71... Not 71/72...

From there, they signed me up to do a 3 hour mensa test... On the basis that if I got an IQ above 150, I would have the afternoon off work and they would do the work for me... LOL I did it in just over an hour and got high 170s... Then I got an email from Mensa to do a real test... To see if I could get into the organisation... It went from there...

Anyways... Long story short... I guess each person works varying levels in their job. I just dont get why it's not acceptable to pay teachers as much as doctors? How do doctors get their jobs? They are educated by teachers...?

Doctors are actually educated by other Doctors..

Don't get me wrong mate I reckon a good teacher should be paid a fortune.. But the problem is once you start talking 'performance based' pay scales.. The teachers union always flip their lid..

But you're very right in the people take their jobs to different levels. It's in every profession..
