At the end of the day, they can do the same deductions you can. Download e-Tax from the tax office and it will automate the whole process for you. It asks you questions and depending on your answer it either skips that section or asks for further info (with details on what it needs, the format, receipts, etc.).

I will have a go at it tonight. I use to have a great accountant but he has moved overseas now. I have previous tax return statements from over the years. Do you think I can some how copy what he has written previously so that I receive the same tax return back?

Just follow etax, if your in doubt click on the help sections, it's easy.

So did he move because he was dodgy or what? He should be able to do it for you even though he's overseas, if you can contact him.

If not, you may be able to spend your tax return money on a trip to south america too.

I always do mine and all my friends tax returns with e-tax. Its really so simple when it all comes down do it. Incomes + Allowances - Deductions = $$$. But I did study Accounting in Uni, so I guess that helps too. Hoping to get at least 8K back this year, tax man hit me hard. 22k in tax, I mean come on.

Paid 13k in tax, after deductions and what not only getting $110. Seems stupid so will get a professional to do it for me.

I normally do it each year and get about 1700 back after paying about 10

Just go easy on work related expenses if you fall under one of these:

– Real estate employees

– Carpenters and joiners

– Earthmoving plant operators

– Flight attendants.

They're on the ATO hit-list this year.

And if you do happen to be unfortunate enough to make a mistake, just ensure it's accidental (I.e. no sign of methodically working out how you're going to rip the tax man off). If you are audited then honest mistakes just have to be repaid, blatant rorts will see you get smacked.
