Decided to drive to an exhaust shop and get the middle exhaust section removed and replaced. Got a direct bolt on 3" section made with a single resonator. First impressions are good, I like the sound with minimal drone. I think cruising up hill will be a different story but the gargle on decel and rolling downhill is pretty sweet.

Do love a bit of burble going on when coasting in to a set of lights, even with the ZF in the car if you just downshift manually a bit early you get it happening.  Izz naiiice

car stuff today:

-boost solenoid maintenance followed by a test drive, made a nice difference.

-found a loose earth behind battery near headlight. Cleaned battery terminals again.

-tried to lift bumper up, failed to get a decent result, will have to remove.

I still want to paint my intercooler black and was thinking about doing it on the car but upon finding this I figure it's best to remove the intercooler, clean it out and apply some kill rust to this nice cutting job. Only going to paint the front facing side of the cooler black.

Yeah sloppy cutting job and didn't even bother to paint it over to stop rust!

I know this wasn't done today, but it was done yesterday

Mysteriously my car started to sound like a tractor on Friday.

I have had the car running fine for 2 years and now mysteriously it started doing this................

Anyways, most of yesterday arvo was spent tightening the loose turbo bolt to see if that was the cause.

Nope, that was not it. I then spoke to SteveR and got some info about Torque settings for the bolts on the exhaust manifold.

Tightened the exhaust manifold bolts for cylinder 6,5 and 4. I know cylinder 6 was loose and I tightened her up but it still sounded like a freggin tractor which was a disappointment.

Couldn't figure out/ or was being to lazy to get cylinder 3,2 and number 1 tightened up. I know number 1 is loose at the moment cause I can hear air leaking.

will need to sort this out on the weekend.

However the tractor sound was there because the bolts for the flange, that holds the dump pipe to the cat were loose as fark.

I am sooo glad that I have the right tools for the job. I got the sidchrome socket set for my birthday a few years ago.

That angled part that comes in the set, saved my life. the picture above is not my hand or the part I have. grabbed it off the net.

I tightened those bolts on the flange and she don't sound like a freggin tractor. it was driving me bonkers...........

I am smiling from ear to ear today. lets see how long before that turbo bolt comes loose again.

I love how I got credit when I really didn't give you any useful info beyond "yeah dunno ay should be similar to B series just pay attention to size of bolts and don't tighten them up so much you snap them" hahaha.  Forgot to even tell you what Luke suggested about starting from the centre!

fark Steve, thanks for the help........ NOT

I think, next time, I'll just txt Luke to not disturb him on his sunday session. ;)

Unfortunately I found it difficult to get the lower bolt on cylinder 4 done to.

one thing is for sure, I tightened those bolts to the Bf speck of 27nm................. none of them snapped off.

I just couldn't figure out how the guys got the sockets in to tighten cylinder 3 and 2 on the lower side.

The turbo is in the way. :(

At least I no longer have the smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. That was a big worry for me on friday.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep it in mind.

Don't recall having major issues on my BF getting at the bolts except for having to reach up a bit for number 6.  FG problems :P
