Kroozin, the correct way to set your waste gate actuator is to have the gate closed and adjust the actuator rod length so there is about half a hole of tension when you put it onto the waste gate pin.

You may have too much tension on the actuator diaphragm, which will require more boost pressure to open it causing your boost problem.

I'd guess the ford turbo should start opening at four to five psi. Then the boost solenoid will control the boost from there.

That's actually exactly how I fitted it (12lb act.) up originally, half a hole like you said.

I've since turned the front housing clockwise 8mm from ref. which should bring point to point closer together but the boost remains exactly the same.

Starting to 2nd guess the factory controller.

Today I hook up some air pres. with a fairly inaccurate measure (haha) of roughly 10psi-12psi I could here the act. click as it fully relaxed, though it took up to around 20+psi for the gate to open fully like the video shows.

How touchy are these actuators when it comes to adj.?

I mean is say a half turn or full turn make or break so to speak??

Keep in mind you cannot account for back pressure in the housing this will reduce the pressure required to fully open the gate. Hence it's very difficult to test. I always set my 1.5 to 2 holes preload. Just my preference.

Either your setup/adjustment is incorrect or your port job is shizenhousen.

Must have setup it up wrong.

Does it look like the arm is extending fully? To me it looks like it would be so I'm not suspecting a clingy gate.

I had to swap my core and front cover with a known good turbo (same same) as my bearings in the old turbo were fooked hard, perhaps they weren't special a while ago when it was tuned..

I was very careful getting everything marked and fitted the same (anal farkin) + had the preload fitted back the same at half a hole. Everything slotted back together nicely.

So it's the healthier turbo and shorter intake that has made the change...? Maybe back off the preload more?

Does the factory boost controller demand a certain boost and the computer adj. flow to the act. or is it more of a "fixed setup" where it is what it is from when it was tuned and mech. changes to the say rod length will alter the boost "accordingly"?

It's ran around the 18's-19's psi for a fair while now without boost issues. I've seen BTA get a rock solid 18psi from start to finish tune done in no time too so I have confidence in the port job.

Probably just needs the tune redone. The boost control in the tune is most likely the issue, definitely looks like its opening/closing smoothly and easily.

The actuator will only do as commanded by the controller.

Finally got around to washing my car... Wash claybar polish wax.... Hope I don't have to do that again for a while :(

Hope ultimate liquid wax lives up to the marketing and lasts at least 3 months

Must be on to something.

I put a def. 12 psi on it (12lb act.)today and it extended the rod a good 5mm.

It's opening just like it should or even early for that matter, still over boosts like a biatch though

waste gate duty cycle %, command a bit less boost (10lb) may bring it down a touch,you need to find the sweet spot where it holds boost,just because your commanding 10lb if its overboosting it may sit on 17-18lb, maybe in the tune ....
