Having a bit of difficulty selecting 2nd gear first thing in the morning when it's cold. Have only noticed it over the last month and just wanted to know if it would be considered "normal" for these gearboxes. It's only second gear, and if I try and force it in, it will grind like the clutch isn't in far enough. It only happens when the gearbox is cold and only second gear. Happened to me in my old R33 nearly every day in winter when I wanted to put it in reverse to back it up out of the garage.

(just out of interest)just put it in the 2nd gate and pull back gently, which will give the thick oil a better chance to dissapate.dont know anything about the manual boxes, is there a thiner gear oil that can be used in them? I think its dex111 innit?cheers, andy
Impellor Member 835 Member For: 14y 7m 4d Gender: Not Telling Posted 08/07/12 08:34 AM Share Posted 08/07/12 08:34 AM I think this is a fairly common problem with any Tremec box. But don't force it into gear where its crunching. I generally throttle off and wait for it to drop into second when its ready. I live in Queensland were temps don't get down anywhere near the Southern States. Its like it knows its winter, maybe there is some inbuilt fuzzy logic. He did say not to put anything thick in it as it will damage ring gears. But I'm talking about T56, the stronger TR6060 ( which incidenty, I was told is the old T56 magnum) I'm not sure about. Just hold the shifter down (don't force) and it should find its place. I sometimes get little crunches here an there on freezing mornings. Doesn't even let me get into 1st at all in the cold unless im at a complete stop. Edited 08/07/12 08:55 AM by Paulie2256

Cheers yeah I got a zf and know nothing about t56 or tr6060 (infact this is the first ivheard of a tr6060 lol) all I know is the lighter the oil the easyer the changes will be. 70/75 is pretty light for a gear oil, there normaly 75/90+.cheers, andy
