I would like to know what tyre options are available to me to increase rear grip of my FG F6?.....would I be able to get wider/ grippier tyres without resorting to wider rims?

I would like to keep the original factory rims .

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to tyres/rims so ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Goodyear Fi Asymetrics MKII

2. Michilin PP's MKII

3. Not tried yet, btu Nitto's get very good reviews from people on here that have used them. And it would seem 20 - 30% cheaper than my first two selections.

I do swear by the Goodyears myself though. I have gone cheaper and always regret it.

To help the tyres you need to set up the rear suspension as soft as you can have it....Which isn't that soft because you first have to get rid of the axle tramp first.

What eva poundage the teins coilovers are using on the rear is a good weight. Not too stiff, still will be stiffer under 100kp/h. But not too bad.

I've never had axle tramp, wet or dry with them in

Timetaker,

If you want to keep with the standard profile of 35 then the widest tyre you could go to would be 255. What you gain from this would be minimal so I'd suggest going to a better quality or softer tyre. If you want serious grip then going to a semi slick will get the grip you want but obviously tyre life will be greatly reduced. The other option is a quality street tyre with a low treadwear (UTQG) this will gain you a greatler level of grip but at a cost that may make you cringe. In addition to the tyres listed so far in this thread I'd add the Bridgstone RE050A which has a UTQG of as low as 140 and also a good option a few here have taken is the Nitto NT05 or Invo, great price and good grip.

to get a correct answer you need to elaborate what grip you want to improve, I'm assuming you are talking straight line acceleration grip as it appears the others do as well by the answers, but some chase corner grip whether turning in or exiting a corner etc.

Quality of tyre will have a huge affect and as mentioned how hard the suspension is, another thing to consider is lowering the car can have a negative affect on grip

+1 for Nitto NT05's, I'm on my third set with my standard rims 245/35/19

I also found grip improved after installing a Harrop Truetrac and changing every single bush in the rear end to Polly.

People should probably stop saying Nitto as if it's a specific tyre :)

Invos are good and decently priced, NT05's are gripper versions. I have noticed the most difference using Invos after going from KU31's in cornering. They handle corners very well even when tread is really past the point of needing replacement. I only have experience with stock BFII XR suspension setup though, and tired at that.

Thanks guys.It looks likely that I'll go for the Nitto Invos.

I'm not going to track the car or modify the engine or suspension although I may replace the bushes.Although I believe that those tyres will improve cornering I want improved traction from a standing start but mainly when the car is on a roll and I'm accelerating through the gear changes.

I really, really hate it when the car loses traction through the gear changes.I should be pulling bus lengths on car that are less powerful instead I find myself door to door with them(it's much worse if they are in a VZ SS)
