Hi,

I was reading and when you modify the exhaust system on a XR6 Turbo is highly suggested you get a tune to prevent boost creep, etc...

But could this not be circumvented by added a boost controller to the system to prevent the need for a tune straight away if you keep the boost at standard setting even though you've added a full exhaust system?

Mate, you need to get a tune. These cars are very sensitive and the ECU has tight thresholds for boost so a boost controller is no good. The problem with a bigger exhaust is that it allows too much overboost and the ECU puts the car into limp mode.

ok thanks for the help guys, I just wanted to clarify it just wasn't a boost spike issue.. since I know with nissan imports you can simply add a boost controller to keep boost creep in check but they don't experience the major lean out issues.

Wasn't aware that the ford engines were so sensitive.

Its more an issue of the wastegate cant control it so the boost control wont have any effect in stopping it. And as the ford doesnt run a airflow meter it cant compensate for it.
