And how long would it be before some 18 year old girl is walking home at 1am because she isn't allowed to drive, and gets raped and/or murdered?

Too many american movies for you my friend. Can you say.....taxi ???

Any chance of banning the trucks with crap spewing garbage out the back and the old tossers doing 75 in a 100 zone while they are at it?

What about the thousands of unroadworthy cars out there in dangerland?

Any chance they can ban the bespectacled public servants that don't have a licence from being on these "staysafe" boards?

These kids shoud be snuggled up in bed before midnight rather than hooning around making 2 fast 2 furious a realilty for them......

Some of my best driving has been between 12AM and 4AM

Velvet Glove I agree with you 101%.Good call.I have a16 year old son who has just inherited our old EB XR8.He has been pounding a HQ around the paddock here since he was 11 so his car control is good, but peer pressure ,testosterone and tiredness could lead anywhere.Advanced driver training for vehicles with a superior power to weight ratio might be the way to go.There have been several young and tragic deaths in this area very recently on open roads at night and those who are parents know very well that you never really sleep until the the kids come home.

I dont know whether I agree with this strategy. Not being from a capital city and experience their problems I dont see its relevance where I am. If a person is working in those hours they will be permitted to drive. If they have an open licence holder with them they are allowed to drive. I can see the headlines now.

FEMALE TEENAGER MURDERED CAUSE SHE COULDNT DRIVE HOME.

I dont agree with how the media do it sometimes but we live amongst the collective and the power of the many will roll this one me thinks

Hmmmm, Curfew you say ... not sure I agree with the concept, never mind the practicalities of enforcing the thing?

Do the statistics show that there is a higher mortality rate among P-Platers in this time period? Is this approach really justified?

Being a P-Plater myself and will be untill im 22 (thank you Mr Green P's  ) I must say I can see the good and bad of this legislation.

Good/ To many hoon friends flipped, rolled, crashed or otherwise injured due to lack of skill/kangaroo etc (Non killed fortunately). Will stop SOME that

Bad/Even less night driving skills

People like me who dont drink and are automatically DD with drinking session lasting til 2/3 up the pub club etc?Let friends walk home drunk?

Find solice in headlands at night occasionaly. Not allowed to be angry or otherwise between 12 and 4?

I would prefer to see Provisional license holders restricted to driving only immediate family around. A normal, sensible young guy turns into a retard once he gets a car load of mates to gee him up and peer pressure is a dangerous thing.

I think that is a short term proposition as I still think people should be trained to drive a car ......but there are no votes in it so it won't happen

Can you say "expensive"? Especially for a young full-time student (as an example).

With insurance problems these days Advanced driver courses are going to start falling by the wayside just like the motorcycle driving tests are

Stay Upright which is a great training scheme for learner motorcyclists has already closed down in NSW which is a bloody shame

I for one would hate to go back to the days where you got your P's by doing a lap around the nearest RTA

If the government's were serious about young drivers they would implement advanced driving courses for all young drivers before letting them loose on the roads

Would be a better way of spending the revenue from the cameras than propping up there governments

It is a great idea, the only downfall is it gives them "dutch courage" about their ability that is only learnt through many driving hours. In Europe this was implemented and juvies were killing themselves at dangerous speeds. However I think this can be overshadowed by the positives of the idea. Yes it would be a good place to spend some of that revenue. Mt Cotton is QLD driver training facility and is funded by the sale of personalised plates would you believe.
