I dont like the front end or the flat bits they've stuck just above the wheel arches, it is going to date very quickly.

There has been that much hype around it that it already looks old....

I don't understand the hype. The Mazda Mx5 has been doing this formula for years (lightweight, awesome handling). I've heard the Toyota is using the same gearbox as well.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt the new 86's engine the same design as the subie rex? if so wouldnt it be practical to slap a rexxie turbo on that motor and be done with it? im not 100% sure but I know its a boxer 2.0L horizontally aposed d-4s, so im not sure if its the same, a little clarity from someone who knows theres subies and boxer engines would be good.

1. Ugly

2. Slow

3. "Handling", well no. When your hitting the corner slower than everyone else course you'll take it better. But it's still a mass produced sh*tter.

4. $40k Toyota. C'mon.

5. Slow.

6. Aesthetically unappealing.

7. Appeals mainly to Internet dreamers, will be brought by mid 40s ladies.

Its meant to be made faster through aftermarket bits and have a well handling base as opposed to a taxi base with factory go fast bits

I'm not in the know, but I'm sure I read long ago it was an all new engine, just the same configuration as the Rex. I think there's a slight difference to the firing order so it pulses more like an inline engine and there might be a change to the injection system too. I did see something saying you can't just slap a turbo on it with Rex manifold.

By relationship you mean toyota's large share holding in Subaru?

Yes. Car manufacturers get rid of investments (other car badges they own) regularly. WIth the global downturn which Toyota is in just as much trouble as the other biggies, there is no such thing as a safe investment. In the end even if the co-operative works, it's still a Toyota and Japaese cars design dates very quickly. It's not that good looking to start with.
